Andrew Hozier-Byrne, known professionally by the mononym Hozier, is an Irish musician, singer and songwriter from County Wicklow. He released his debut EP, featuring the hit single “Take Me to Church”, in 2013 and his second EP, From Eden, in 2014.
Before releasing his self-titled studio album in 2014, this Irish blues and Indie rock vocalist recorded two EPs: Take Me to Church and From Eden. From 2009 until 2012, he also performed and toured internationally with the well-known Irish choral group Anúna.
He joined his first music group during his mid teens and went on to briefly attend the music program at Trinity College Dublin.
His 2013 single “Take Me to Church” rose to #2 on Irish music charts and was a #1 hit in Belgium.
A native of Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, he grew up as the child of a locally-prominent blues and soul musician. His birth name was Andrew Hozier-Byrne; he later adopted the stage name of Hozier.
At the 2015 Grammy Awards, he performed “Take Me to Church” alongside Annie Lennox.
